In the Media

The campaign was off to a flying start!

The collective's launch editorial was featured in Kauppalehti, Talouselämä and Kaleva. This first editorial outlines the challenges Finland faces, most notably the growing labor market disparities and a shrinking workforce. The solution is to activate immigrants and help them reach their full potential.

Campaign Launch Event 27.3

On Thursday 27 March, the Attitude Change campaign led by The Shortcut organised its Launch Event. More than 15 campaign partners joined us at the in-person get-together.

We heard from our speakers Jouko Pölönen, CEO of Ilmarinen, Kaarle Hämeri, Chancellor of Helsinki University, Anna Kaskeala-Moore of Metacore, Terhi Lindgren of Attendo and Youssef Zad, of Suomen Startup-Ytheisö, all Finland's shrinking workforce and the importance of welcoming migrants to Finland to join that workforce. Migrants still face many challenges in terms of language requirements and social integration. Some leave Finland again and that is a missed opportunity for us all. The presentations were followed by a lively debate. The Shortcut is very pleased to bring together so many like-minded organisations in our broad coalition, and we are keen to further expand and to continue the debate.

Helsingin Sanomat's Saska Saarikoski attended and wrote a 'pääkirjoitus' about the event. You may read it here.

SuomiAreena 2025: Full-day Discussion of Skilled Labour Migration

SuomiAreena 2025: Full-day Discussion of Skilled Labour Migration

We spent a full day at SuomiAreena 2025 participating in ‘Työperäisen maahanmuuton päivän’ – a whole day event dedicated to skill laboured migration. Our CEO Riikka Loisamo hosted and had a fireside chat with keynote speaker Peter Sarlin, CEO of Silo AI, to discuss AI developments and opportunities for Finland. The day ended with a roundtable discussion with campaign partners from our Attitude Change Collective – Maanpuolustajien kollektiivi.

Read our recap of SuomiAreena here.

Talouselämä published the Collective's first editorial (in Finnish) on Macroeconomics on 31.5. In our article, Suomen Yrittäjät and Keskuskauppakamari set forth the challenges Finland faces in the long run, above all a shrinking workforce, which had implications for our pension and tax systems.

Our Collective believes that immigrants (already in Finland) provide a solution, if only we recognise their potential to contribute and create value for our economy, to ensure a prosperous future for all.

On 13th October, Helsingin Sanomat published another one of our editorials. Written by Barona and TEK, the opinion piece sets forth how the domestic labour force in Finland is shrinking and how we lack specific tech skills. Finland needs internationals to fill the gaps. Sadly, many international graduates leave Finland and many experts would rather go someplace else.

We need to be more welcoming, in more ways that one, to secure a prosperous future for all.

On December 6, Talouselämä published our third campaign editorial, co-penned by Metacore and RELEX on the topic of Talent Attraction and Retention.

Finland needs foreign talent to grow, and that talent needs to stay in Finland.

Our fourth campaign editorial was published by Kauppalehti on December 17th. The topic this time is on Finland's startup ecosystem, co-written by Finnish Startup Community and Maria 01.

Finland has the opportunity to position itself as a gateway through which non-EU startups can access the European market, according to experts.
